All food businesses are obliged by law to put into place a Food Safety/HACCP Management System to comply with current Food Safety Legislation in Ireland. Enforcement

In 2021, Health Enforcement Officers served 59 Enforcement Orders on Food Businesses for breaches of Food Safety Legislation in Ireland.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) are charged with the enforcement of Food Safety legislation and its inspectorate has far reaching powers. The task of enforcement is shared with local city/county councils, the Department of Agriculture Food & the Marine, the Marine Institute and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority.

Food Safety/HACCP Management System

Every Food business in Ireland should have a HACCP Food Safety Management System in place to ensure the safety of their customers and staff.
