The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has reminded businesses involved in selling prepacked food that there are 14 allergens that must be declared by law on the packaging. These are:
- Cereals containing gluten
- Crustaceans
- Eggs
- Fish
- Peanuts
- Soybeans
- Milk
- Nuts
- Celery
- Mustard
- Sesame seeds
- Sulphur dioxide and sulphites
- Lupin
- Molluscs
The FSAI reminds businesses that allergen information must be displayed in the list of ingredients with clear reference to the name of the allergen. The allergen must also be listed in a way that makes it stand out from the other ingredients.
The FSAI has published a guide on Food Information on Prepacked Foods.
